NVIDIA’s RTX 3060 hash rate limiter

One week before the release of the RTX 3060 Nvidia announced that they would take measures to make their RTX 3060 undesirable to crypto miners. With this measure Nvidia will try to increase the availability of their GeForce GPUs for gamers.

The RTX 3060 should be able to detect the specific characteristics of the mining algorithm of Ethereum and will only provide half the mining rate. The mining algorithm is specifically designed to be unable to be mined with a ASIC. Ethereum’s price skyrocketed recently from $200 to more than $2,000.

Nvidia will also create a new CMP-series for specially designed for mining, these cards will not have any outputs for monitors.

Ethereum will switch from a proof-of-work to a proof-of-stake consensus, which will require a lot less calculation power, since the reward miners will receive will depend upon the amount of Ethereum they have instead of the amount of mining power they have.

All these measures should reduce the price of the final product.
